CURRENT 40 Highlights - 01302K8

- Ne-Yo's "Go on Girl" finally takes the top spot from Paramore's "Crushcrushcrush". This is the young RnB singer/songwriter's 3rd solo #1 single and 4th overall in the CURRENT 40 chart (the most among male solo artists). Furthermore, he becomes #1 exactly 2 years since his smashing debut single "So Sick" debuted in the chart at #18.

- In its 2nd week, Sara Bareilles' "Love Song" climbs up 9 places to almost reach the Top 10.

- Follow-up singles from Colbie Caillat and Jordin Sparks both debut in this week's chart, with "Realise" (#32, highest new entry) and "No Air" (#36, her collaboration with a sizzling Chris Brown), respectively. Usher enters the chart with "That Girl Right There" (#38, featuring Ludacris), his first solo single in 3 years.

- Spongecola's "Pasubali" surfaces at the tailend of the chart, bringing the OPM songs in the chart to 8, the highest tally in 6 months. (So far, only Mojofly's "Simula" and Urbandub's "Guillotine" have managed to crack Top 10, let alone Top 20.)

CURRENT 40 Highlights - 01232K8

- Paramore's "Crushcrushcrush" once again holds off Ne-Yo's "Go On Girl" from taking over the #1 spot.

- The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus' "Cat and Mouse" climbs up 29 huge spots to enter the Top 10. This is the 3rd biggest jump in CURRENT 40's history.

BIGGEST JUMPS
32 spots: (40-8) Ain't No Other Man - Christina Aguilera (July 5, 2K6)
30 spots: (35-5) Unfaithful - Rihanna (July 19, 2K6)
29 spots: (39-10) Do I Make You Proud - Taylor Hicks (June 28, 2K6) and (39-10) Cat and Mouse - The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (January 23, 2K8)

Meanwhile, "Your Guardian Angel" remains in the Top 10 after 15 weeks in the chart. This is one of those rare occasions that an artist has 2 singles simultaneously inside the Top 10 (not including artists making guest appearances in other tracks).

- Chris Brown gains his 2nd Top 5 single, as "With You" sizzles up 13 notches in its 2nd week.

- Sara Bareilles' "Love Song" debuts inside the Top 20, the highest new entry among 3 new entries and a re-entry: Natasha Bedingfield's "Love Like This" (re-enters at #32 after a week's absence), Mary J. Blige's "Just Fine" (#36) and Simple Plan's "When I'm Gone" (#40).

CURRENT 40 Highlights - 01162K8

- Paramore crushes Ne-Yo's chances of taking over the pole position, at least for this week. Should "Go On Girl" overcome "Crushcrushcrush", Ne-Yo will now have 4 #1 singles, the most for any male artist that has made it in the CURRENT 40 chart since its inception 2 years ago.

- Mojofly earns their 2nd Top 10 single with "Simula". There are now 2 Top 10 OPM singles in this month alone, compared to 5 local songs in the whole of 2K7.

- Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music" and Elliott Yamin's "One Word" gain 8 spots each to become the biggest gainers this week. Rihanna has the biggest gain for the 3rd consecutive week and so far has 6 Top 10 singles, the most for any female solo artist in this chart. Meanwhile, will.i.am's "The Donque Song" freefalls a dozen spots, the biggest drop this week.

- Chris Brown's "With You" barges inside the Top 20 in its 1st week in the CURRENT 40. Other debuts are Enrique Iglesias' "Somebody's Me", Jonas Brothers' "SOS" and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus' "Cat and Mouse". It is interesting to note that the latest single from The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus managed to make it inside the Top 40 with less than a week of initial radio airplay and with their record-tying charttopper "Your Guardian Angel" still inside the Top 3.

CURRENT 40 Highlights - 01092K8

- "Crushcrushcrush", Paramore's 2nd single off their sophomore album Riot!, snatches the #1 spot away from The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus' "Your Guardian Angel".

- Ne-Yo and Flo Rida storm into the Top 10 territory with "Go On Girl" and "Low", respectively. T-Pain, who is the guest artist in "Low", has claimed his 3rd Top 10 single in just less than 6 months. Britney Spears re-entered Top 10 with "Piece of Me".

- Stereophonics' "It Means Nothing" and Rihanna's "Don't Stop the Music" climb up 11 positions each to both become this week's biggest gainers. Meanwhile, Fall Out Boy's "I'm Like a Lawyer with the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off (Me + You)" and "Like You'll Never See Me Again", Alicia Keys' 2nd single off As I Am, slides down 10 spots each and are this week's biggest losers. Hmmm, it seems like the rather long song titles don't help them much in their respective CURRENT 40 chart performances.

- Just when we thought we've had enough of him, Sean Kingston has 2 new entries this week! His collaboration with Kiwi singer Natasha Bedingfield, "Love Like This", is this week's highest new entry at #38, while "Take You There", his 3rd single off his eponymous debut album, takes him to #40.

- Sandwiched between 2 Sean Kingstons is local band Overtone setting the record straight in their CURRENT 40 debut with "Rule #1 Wag Mong Aaminin". OPM, led by Mojofly's "Simula", indeed has a rousing start and now has 7 songs within Top 40.
